A More Perfect Union

A lot of discussion has been generated by a speech delivered recently by US Presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama on race and politics in that country.

The speech is inspiring to say the least, and some are likening it to Martin Luther King Jr's "I Have A Dream" speech. You can watch it below, and if you prefer to read the text of the speech, click here.

For the J.Lo fans...

For all you Jennifer Lopez fans out there, here's a photo of the singer/actress/dancer on the cover of this week's People Magazine with her one month-old twins, Max and Emme.

It was reported that People paid J.Lo $6 million for the cover shoot. Dang, that can buy a lot of pampers and milk....

Congrats to her and husband Marc Anthony.

Happy Easter!

Hi, peoples. Here's wishing all of you a peaceful and blessed Easter. It's a long weekend here, beginning yesterday with Good Friday and ending with a bank holiday on Monday.

It's a pretty peaceful time here in Bim, lots of kite-flying and church-going. It's also a time for spring-cleaning and cooking up a storm...a bit like Christmas but a lot less hectic.

Wherever you are in the world, enjoy!

Standing by your man

As the Spitzer prostitution scandal continues to unfold, lots of articles are being generated about the lives of the former New York Governor and his wife, and of course about previous scandals involving political figures.

I came across this article on why the wives of these prominent men stand by them in times of scandal and I started to wonder if the same thing would happen here in Barbados. I know that embattled Vincentian PM Ralph Gonsalves' wife was by his side recently at a press conference about rape allegations made against him, but I wonder if a Bajan bigwig were to run into trouble if wifey would represent her man or kick him to the curb.

Anyhoo, if this US investigation I heard about into prostituion rings in Barbados really gets going, we may soon find out....

Have a good weekend!

First Black New York Governor appointed

Well, since former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has gone and gotten himself caught up up in a prostitution ring and had to resign, his Lt. Governor David Paterson is taking over as Governor of New York on March 17th and is the first black man (he’s also of Jamaican and Grenadian heritage) to do so.

Paterson also made history by becoming the first legally blind person to address the Democratic National Convention and the first visually impaired person to become Governor of any state. Congrats to him.

The Brits have talk for Bajan 'proper pork'

I had to stupse really hard when I saw on the news on Sunday evening that the British Pig Association was comparing our Bajan proper pork unfavourably to British pork.

That created a laugh at my house, because if there's one thing Barbados is renowned for it's the quality of our pork and ham. Odes have been written about the joys of eating a hamcutter. Ask Richard "Low Down Hoad".

Tourists act like they've died and gone to heaven when they tuck into our pudding and souse, fried pork our that juicy leg or shoulder ham from a certain distributor on Fontabelle.

I don't know about you, but I've never eaten any meat in England that could hold a candle to our Bajan proper pork. As for what they call ham, wuhloss don't even go there. Good luck trying to get that flavoured. If the British pork is so sweet, why are my relatives in England crying these days because they can't take back Bajan ham like they used to, and clamouring for every bit of seasoning they could find to flavour up their meats?

Anyhoo, I won't belabour the point. Suffice it to say, would you eat any meat coming from this? I'm just saying....

Obama and CLinton go head- to-head

Another Super Tuesday

Good luck to my fave presidential hopeful, Barack Obama, as primaries are held in Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont. If he can clinch Texas and Ohio I think he stands a good chance of gaining his party's nod for President.

How the primaries have unfolded has surprised a lot of persons, myself included. Obama has Hillary Clinton on the ropes, and not even this little girl seems to think much of her chances...just kidding.

'Chrianna' gets lovey-dovey

Hi, peoples. Sorry for the breaks between posts but new duties have been keeping me busy. Let's roll with a few pics I've been holding for you Rihanna and Chris fans out there. The couple has been dubbed Chrianna by the tabloids, by the way...

The couple recently attended John Galliano's fashion show in Paris and brought the cuteness.

They also hung out in the VIP section of a Paris nightclub.

Hmm. I usually get suspicious when celebs do the PDA thing when they know the paparazzi or someone else is going to be snapping pics, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now....
